Analysing a scene from Hunger games notes

The hunger games- cornucopia bloodbath scen

• In this scene we see people bidding, watching the game on a scene and the fight scene its self 

Camera shots:

• While everyone is watching the games we see that Gale is sat on a hill in the forest looking out into the distance with a panning affect hand help camera 
• 
  
• We can see through gales facial expressions that he seems some what hurt and upset reflecting in his thoughts we can see this through a closed body language and facial expressions 
• Then when gale looks down the camera shot turns to an over the shoulder shot to dolly across. 
• 
  
• He then looks at the forest where Katniss is 
• During the bloodbath scene the camera is mostly shaken im guessing because of the fast pace of the action which gives a more dramatic and chaotic atmosphere.

• The girls facial expressions- distressed, on edge, scored

• Girl - breathing heavily 
• 
  
• Close ups of Katniss to show how she feels
• Others look my confident in a long angle shot - strong body language, determined look in their eyes

The positioning of characters:

• While Prim and Katniss’ mom watch the games, Prim is at a half turned view this is showing that she is uncomfortable and she is so much emotional pain watching it that she can’t even bring herself to watch it. However, she does also have a sort of angry look on her face perhaps she didn’t want her to do the game
• the characters in the games are positioned to all face the same object, the cornucopia. The framing of the whole scene also make the scene more emotional and interesting.
• The scene involves lots of close ups of Katniss before the games begin and during the game. 
• Katiness looks fearful and scared of being killed 

Contrasts 

• Dominant contrast- An example is when Katniss is scouting the area of the cornucopia. 
• She spots her weapon that she wants to use it glistens In the light to show what she is looking out an eye match shot 
• The surroundings are blurred to focus the watches attention to the object and make the weapon the. Subject this is a-shallow focus
• Katmniss then runs into the forest where bombs into a girl and they stare at each other for a minute, this gave a sense of suspense and curiosity of what would happen next very small proximity between the characters- shot reverse shot 

Angles 

• During the first few seconds of the scene, the rich residents are seen cheering, bidding, and having a good time like a festival. They are viewed at from a lower angle to show how dominant they are. 
• We can see that they are the richest and are the most luxurious and wealthiest.  
• It then cuts to the districts watching their districts tributes square off in the games. The district residents are being viewed from a higher angle to show how small they are and how they are “puppets” in the rich hands, fighting for their amusement.
